Burlington Introduce
For New York residents in the Hudson Valley region, particularly around Kingston, finding quality apparel, home essentials, and accessories at exceptional values is a key part of smart shopping. Burlington, formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory, at 1177 Ulster Ave is a cornerstone of this value-oriented retail landscape. More than just a traditional "clothing store," it operates as a full-scale discount department store offering a massive and constantly rotating selection of merchandise for the entire family and the home.
Burlington’s business model is centered on providing "WOW deals" on customers' favorite brands, often slashing prices by up to 60% compared to other retailers. This makes it an ideal destination for New Yorkers seeking budget-friendly ways to update their wardrobe, outfit their children, or refresh their living spaces. The store is categorized as a supplier for men's clothing, women's clothing, baby clothing, children's clothing, a jewelry store, and a home goods store, signifying its immense variety under one roof.
The core shopping experience at Burlington is based on the thrill of the find. Because inventory changes frequently, shoppers who are looking for common, everyday items at a great price will often find success. However, as noted by customers, the selection can fluctuate depending on the time of the visit, appealing to those who enjoy frequent, quick visits to hunt for the latest arrivals and best values. While the focus is heavily on value and speed, the size and nature of the discount model mean that operational capacity, such as staffing and the availability of fitting rooms, can sometimes be a point of friction for some shoppers.
Location and Accessibility
The Burlington store is conveniently located at a major retail corridor in the Hudson Valley, making it easily reachable for shoppers throughout Kingston and Ulster County. The exact address is 1177 Ulster Ave, Kingston, NY 12401, USA. Situated along Ulster Avenue, it is surrounded by other major shopping destinations, offering New York consumers a central location for completing multiple errands and shopping trips.
The company has made significant efforts to ensure the store is accessible to all members of the community, prioritizing comfort and ease of navigation for every visitor. Key accessibility features include:
- Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: Provides a smooth, easy entry point into the retail space.
- Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot: Offers dedicated parking spaces that meet accessibility standards.
- Wheelchair Accessible Restroom: Ensures that restroom facilities are usable by everyone.
- Wheelchair Accessible Seating: Provides comfortable resting areas within the store.
These amenities support the "In-store shopping" experience, allowing customers to focus on hunting for deals during a "Quick visit" without logistical barriers.

Features / Highlights

- Vast Department Store Selection: Operates as a true department store, allowing New Yorkers to purchase clothing, home goods, baby items, and luggage all in a single shopping trip.
- High Shopping Efficiency: The store is designed for a "Quick visit," making it easy for busy shoppers to drop in and quickly find common, high-value items, though this efficiency can be challenged during peak staffing shortages.
- Ever-Changing Inventory: Merchandise turnover is constant, meaning the selection is always fresh, encouraging repeat visits from customers who enjoy the "treasure hunt" aspect of discount retail.

What is Worth Choosing
For New York residents in the Hudson Valley, Burlington is worth choosing primarily for its unparalleled value and convenience as a one-stop-shop. If your goal is to acquire essential and common items—whether it’s a new winter coat, a seasonal refresh of home decor, or back-to-school clothes for the kids—at the lowest possible price, Burlington is the destination.
The key factor is price competitiveness. It stands as a vital resource for budget-conscious consumers who prioritize saving money on apparel and home essentials. While some operational challenges, such as staffing during off-peak hours or fitting room access, have been mentioned by shoppers, the store's core mission of delivering significant discounts on a broad range of products remains its strongest draw. It is the place to visit when seeking a "decent" selection of items at a definite "value price." Shoppers who are flexible about brands and enjoy the frequent discovery of new markdowns will find the Burlington experience highly rewarding.
Ultimately, choosing Burlington in Kingston means choosing the opportunity to keep up with essential clothing and home needs without "overspending," making it a valuable contributor to the frugal lifestyle of many New York families.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Selection is not always great, depending on time you visit. Definitely short staffed at times, but still decent if you're looking for common items at a value price!
October 05 · Precious OfodileNice selection until you want to try something on. Why is the store open til midnight if there’s only two people on staff and they won’t let you use the fitting room. Lost a sale tonight and not sure when I’ll be back.
June 21 · JJ SchimpfYou never know what you may find in Burlington but it is always fun to see what they have and sometimes you find just what you want 💕
May 19 · Melanie GaytonSuper Disappointing!I’ve been coming to this store occasionally over the past two years and never had an issue—until today (1/29/25). The moment I walked in, this woman started following me everywhere, pretending to browse. She wasn’t using a cart, just picking up random items and putting them back, clearly just to keep following me. No matter where I went, she was right there. It was weird, uncomfortable, and honestly ridiculous. Even if this is the only place in town to shop, I’m not coming back. 😒Edit: I ended up leaving what I was going to buy and told my sister to do the same... We crossed the street to Marshall’s, where we were able to shop freely without being harassed. Now, I’m advising people to skip this place altogether and go straight to Marshall’s if they want to avoid this kind of treatment.
January 30 · Del RiI love this store, and am a frequent shopper a few times a week. However, this last trip I had is making me rethink even going in there. The young lady at the registers was very rude to me when trying to return something. Mind you, this hasn’t been the first time she wasn’t able to “find my receipt”. It seems as though she can never find my receipt even though I’m a loyalty member. Then I have to dig through my email to find the correct receipt. I said something to her about how she can never find my receipt, and that is when she snapped on me. She called up a manager to ring me out, after yelling at me while moving her head back and forth as though there was a personal problem. Burlington, you need to do better at choosing your cashiers and associates. I’ve worked in retail almost my whole life and that is not how you treat a customer. Maybe the young lady just needs additional training on how to find people’s receipts, or she needs an attitude adjustment. This is not the first time I’ve had an issue with her, and one other cashier in particular. This is also the only store in the area where I feel the cashiers are rude, disrespectful, and do not listen to the customers requests.
