Orientiq Rugs and Cafe Introduce
Orientiq Rugs and Cafe offers the Pennsylvania community a truly unique experience, blending cultural commerce with a profound global mission right in the heart of Columbia. This distinct small business operates as a multifaceted destination: a high-quality Oriental rug store, an engaging art gallery, and a boutique cafe. It is a place where Central PA residents can acquire a beautiful piece of functional art while simultaneously participating in a meaningful effort to support artisan communities abroad.
Unlike traditional retail outlets, Orientiq operates on a near-direct trade model, founded on the principle of "Weaving Hope, One Rug at a Time." This mission is deeply intertwined with its identity. The carpets and kilims sold here are authentic, handwoven pieces, often taking months to complete, sourced directly from skilled artisans—particularly widows, orphans, and struggling families in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan. By eliminating middlemen, Orientiq ensures that a significant portion of every sale goes back to the weavers, providing them with financial stability and dignity. This ethical sourcing story adds immense depth and value to every purchase, transforming a simple home furnishing into a powerful piece of global connection and social impact.
Beyond the stunning collection of colorful, durable, and intricately designed rugs, the space itself is designed to be a cultural haven and community hub. The "art gallery" designation means the store features not only the beautiful artistry of the handwoven carpets but also showcases art by local Pennsylvania artists, such as Garth, creating a dialogue between global and local craftsmanship. The addition of the cafe elevates the experience from a quick shopping trip to a relaxing cultural visit. Customers are invited to relax, enjoy the atmosphere, and sample authentic beverages like Turkish coffee and tea, creating a truly memorable destination in Lancaster County. This unique combination makes Orientiq a perfect spot for both a quick visit and a deeper exploration into art, culture, and ethical consumption.
The quality of the rugs is evident in their craftsmanship, made from locally sourced wool and natural vegetable dyes that ensure both longevity and vibrant color, as noted by local customers who confirm their durability against daily family wear and tear. Customers have the opportunity to physically interact with the rugs, feeling their texture and seeing how their colors shift under the light, a crucial step that was not possible when the business was online-only. This transition to a physical store in Columbia underscores their commitment to providing a tangible, human experience for their Pennsylvania clientele, allowing them to connect with the art and the mission behind it.
The store's inventory includes distinct collections, such as the Noorzai Collection, which specifically features rugs made by Afghan widows and struggling families, and the Elvan Collection, which showcases traditional Turkmen designs. This organized presentation helps buyers not only find the perfect style for their decor but also connect with the specific cultural heritage and story of their rug.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We bought our rugs when they opened in November 2024. It’s been nearly a year and they are holding up really well against the wear and tear of moving furniture, kids, and pets. They are so colorful and interesting they complement almost any decor.
September 29 · Bridgid CassinI had a great experience here at Orientiq, I really enjoyed the Turkish coffee and seeing all the high quality handmade rugs. I really appreciate the focus on helping widows and orphans by providing a market for their rugs. I was able to easily place an order for a custom handmade rug and we are excited to receive it directly from Afghanistan. I definitely recommend Orientiq for your rug needs or to just stop by for a coffee
