abc carpet & home Introduce
For over a century, abc carpet & home has stood as one of New York City’s most enduring and iconic retail destinations, evolving from a late nineteenth-century pushcart carpet business into a multi-level luxury design emporium. Located in the vibrant Flatiron District, the flagship store at 888 Broadway is a true point of interest for anyone seeking to infuse their New York home with artistry, history, and a touch of the extraordinary. Often described as a "design lovers' mecca," this establishment is renowned for its unique, bohemian-inspired textiles, globally-sourced furniture, and the sheer volume of its impeccably curated collection, which includes one of the largest and most diverse rug and home selections in the world.
The atmosphere within the sprawling, multi-story space is intentionally crafted to ignite the senses and inspire. It is known for its ever-changing, whimsical displays—a curated bazaar where shoppers can find everything from high-end, artisan-crafted dinnerware and luxury bedding to massive chandeliers and contemporary custom-designed furniture. The overarching mission of abc carpet & home focuses on craftsmanship, uniqueness, and a deep commitment to environmental consciousness and ethical sourcing. They strive to offer products that possess a handmade story and align with principles of personal and planetary well-being, including collections featuring sustainable, upcycled, and natural materials. This focus makes a visit to the store a rich, immersive experience that transcends simple retail.
The flagship location of abc carpet & home is centrally located at 888 Broadway, New York, NY 10003, USA. This address positions it directly at the junction of the Flatiron District and Union Square, a highly accessible and design-centric area of Manhattan. The proximity to the Union Square Greenmarket and a variety of dining options (including those the store has partnered with) makes it an easy and rewarding place to visit.
Accessibility for all New Yorkers is prioritized, with a dedicated Wheelchair Accessible Entrance provided. The store is exceptionally convenient to reach via the city's extensive subway system, with the major transit hub at 14th Street-Union Square serving the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, and R lines just a block away. For those driving, Paid Street Parking is an option, though often challenging, as is typical for the neighborhood. The store’s layout encourages visitors to take a Quick Visit for small goods or to spend hours exploring the vast collections spread across the floors, finding something they "didn’t know they needed in a corner somewhere."

While the in-store experience and product quality are exceptional, potential buyers—especially those purchasing gifts or expensive items—should exercise caution regarding the retail operational side. One customer’s experience highlighted a concerning lack of care and support, specifically around the inflexibility of the return policy. Even for meaningful, high-value anniversary gifts, the customer reported being four days past the strict return window and was flatly denied an exception by a disengaged representative. Attempts to escalate the issue via phone and email to management resulted in a lengthy, frustrating runaround with no resolution, despite the non-cheap nature of the item. This indicates that while the selection is luxurious, the application of post-sale policies can be rigid, and customer service follow-up on complex issues may be lacking. Buyers are advised to carefully review all return and exchange policies at the time of purchase, as the beauty of the pieces may not be matched by the post-sale support.

What Is Worth Choosing:
abc carpet & home is unequivocally worth choosing for the New Yorker seeking to purchase a truly unique, museum-quality piece of home decor—especially a rug, piece of custom furniture, or a distinctive art object—that functions as an investment and a statement of personal style. The sheer depth of the curated, globally-sourced inventory means you are unlikely to find replicas anywhere else in the city, and the store’s dedication to sustainability adds an ethical layer to the luxury experience. You should choose this point of interest for the inspiration, the unrivaled product quality, and the sheer joy of the browsing experience after visiting the Union Square Greenmarket. However, customers must manage their expectations regarding transactional rigidity; treat the 30-day return policy as absolute, and ensure all questions about installation and delivery are clear before finalizing a purchase. By valuing the store for its unparalleled design contribution to New York and planning transactions carefully, customers can fully enjoy the "magic" that abc carpet & home promises to deliver.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It’s one of my favorite stores for home goods. They have a wide variety of collection from glasses, plates, furniture, rugs to bedding. I love to come here after visiting the Union Square green market. It’s always fun to browse through the entire store. You will find something you didn’t know you needed in a corner somewhere here. I also love that they have both antique and contemporary items to make your home more homey. I do love their rugs, but most of them are quite pricey. I’ll come back for them when I’m a billionaire. Absolutely adore this store!
July 26 · Bradley CAbsolutely terrible customer service. I would not recommend buying a gift from here. The jewelry rep who helped me was completely disengaged—her attitude made it clear she didn’t want to be there. I essentially had to guide myself through the counter, and when I explained what I was looking for, she seemed bored and uninterested. After selecting an item, I mentioned I needed to do an exchange since the gift my husband bought me didn’t fit. She took my receipt, then flatly told me she couldn’t help because I was four days past the return policy. I explained that I don’t live in New York and this was the soonest I could come in, but she showed no concern and told me to “email customer service.” When I asked if there was a phone number to call, she said no—which I later found out was untrue.I eventually reached April in customer service, who said she’d email their product team to request an exception. I want to emphasize: this wasn’t a cheap item—it was a meaningful anniversary gift that I would absolutely keep if it fit. Since then, I’ve called the store (no one answers), left a message for the manager (no response), and spoken to April daily, only to get the same runaround. Customer service still hasn’t replied.I rarely write reviews, but the level of frustration and disappointment is beyond. Buyers beware: while they may sell beautiful pieces, the lack of care and support is unacceptable. At this point, my only option seems to be reaching out to the designer directly for help.
October 02 · MayI absolutely love this store. I used to take clients here for their unique selections of carpets. Then they expanded to so many different furnishings. It’s super fun to come here. You can always find something nice here.
March 09 · The Foodie ArchitectI went in here to buy some pillows and I had asked where the restroom was. 2 (2!!) diff employees looked me up and down and said “sorry it’s for customers only” I’m … literally trying to be a customer? One polite man let me know there was a restroom that I could use but I decided to leave and buy nothing (obviously) super glad i didn’t buy anything :) I suggest going literally anywhere else - side note, my family has been shopping here for 17 years and not a day longer
September 26 · Ava RikkiI made the decision to move from Berlin, Germany to Athens, Greece and set-up an apartment that was unfurnished. Knowing about ABC in NYC and knowing I was going to be there weeks later, I called ABC from Berlin and spoke with Dilek who guided me to buy a rug for the new apartment. I had seen one on the website and told her about it but she said she wanted to show me another one and sent me a picture by email. I LOVED it immediately. SO she gave me a video tour of it and I purchased it because it was part of a Labor Day sale. Luckily, I was going to be in NYC in September prior to its shipping so I stopped by the store to meet Dilek and see the rug. She remembered me immediately from seeing me in the video conference call! She told the boys to roll out the rug because it had not be packed yet and when they did...I teared up! It was so beautiful. SO this was the first purchase for my new apartment. I designed everything around the rug all thanks to Dilek. She is a very special person and has worked at ABC for years...so I am so thankful I got her to help me create my new home! ABC is fabulous and has amazing carpets and furnishings but what they really have is a gracious, caring expert in their top employee...Dilek! Dilek, you are the best and I have you thank for helping me to create my new home in Athens, Greece. Thank you so, so much.Michael Hayden2014 California Teacher of the Year
