Ocean State Job Lot Introduce
For residents across Connecticut, especially those in the shoreline and Lower Connecticut River Valley regions, Ocean State Job Lot in Old Saybrook is far more than just a typical discount store; it's a genuine destination for value hunters. Situated conveniently on Boston Post Road, this location serves as a premier closeout retailer, offering an ever-changing, eclectic mix of merchandise that appeals to nearly every need and interest, from stocking the pantry to furnishing the patio.
The core of the Ocean State Job Lot business model is simple yet compelling: they purchase manufacturer’s overruns, overstocks, and other brand-name closeout inventory in bulk, translating into extraordinary savings for the local Connecticut shopper. This means that every visit is a unique "treasure hunt," as the inventory selection is intentionally dynamic and frequently rotates. As one loyal customer noted, the selection "changes frequently, so frequent visits are encouraged." This element of surprise is a major draw, meaning that a savvy shopper might discover premium items—from specialty food ingredients like gluten-free flours to high-quality seasonal supplies—at a fraction of the original cost.
The store categories cover an expansive range, going well beyond the basic discount store offerings. While it proudly acts as a Discount store
, Clothing store
, and Home goods store
, the shelves are stocked with everything from kitchen pantry staples and health and beauty essentials to auto supplies and pet products. This wide scope ensures that whether you're looking for a quick, essential item or dedicating a weekend afternoon to browsing for a bargain, you are likely to find an item you didn't even know you needed. The inventory is robust and "reasonably clean," ensuring a pleasant shopping experience even with the high volume of unique items.
A crucial element of their community focus is their commitment to accessibility and convenience. Recognizing the need for a swift shopping experience, especially for busy Connecticut families, the store is set up for a "Quick visit" while still offering the option for a more leisurely In-store shopping
spree. Furthermore, their payment options are inclusive, accepting not just traditional credit and debit cards, but also NFC mobile payments and, critically, SNAP/EBT benefits, ensuring their excellent values are accessible to the broadest possible segment of the Connecticut community.
It is important for bargain hunters to be aware of the "closeout prices" model, which means certain items "may not always be available," and it's always wise, especially with certain perishable goods, to "double-check expiration dates on food items." These minor considerations are simply part of the closeout hunting experience. However, the overwhelmingly positive takeaway is that Ocean State Job Lot is a phenomenal option for locals willing to embrace the surprise factor
and capitalize on incredible deals across a vast array of quality merchandise, making it a must-visit in Old Saybrook.

February 05 · Bob BaxterBig, ever-changing inventory in a reasonably clean store. The books and software section was pretty small and unsatisfying, but nearly every other aisle and section was much better stocked. One very pleasant surprise was an entire wall covered in gluten-free flours and baking mixes!I can't be sure, but there may be treasure or loot hidden in the wall of their men's room...
June 15 · Mike RichThis Job Lot was one of the worst experience of my life! The employee there aren't helpful and they seem to be following you everywhere you go. There is a guy who was following me and looking at me like I was going to do something and stared at me very uncomfortablely and try to make "small talk" All bscause I walked in with a bag. I felt like he was assuming that I was going to do something. Made me feel so uncomfortable and he was staring at other females as well. He just gave me a uncomfortable feeling. They didn't have all the things I needed and I asked and they just shrugged their heads and told me to come back and they claim to not know what they have in their trucks. Very disappointing. Very unprofessional. Worse experience of my life never ever will step into this dirty smelly Job lot again
April 15 · JackieAwesome bargin store in old saybrook. Prices are great. The store is stuck in the 1980s though
September 19 · KAYE AOTheir is nothing worse than bad advertisements and liers who work at the store. Lawn and leaf bags say 60 cents. They are in a pack of 25. So I went to register, and she proceeded to cut them open and said 60 cents per bag. I said that's not how the advertisement reads. I leave and call the manager. The manager says she is standing in front of the leaf bags, and they are all cut, and they are 60 cents per bag. Thank God I always get proof, and I took a picture of the sign and them not cut. Not only do they lie, but they proceeded not to give me them as advertised. So, my impression is that they are not out for the customer at all.
